This wooden cross, entirely carved by hand, is the handiwork of the monk Father Galaktion of Saint Dimitrios' Cell* in Kapsala, Mount Athos, Greece.
The cross is made of boxwood, a type of wood with a smooth texture, ideal for carving as it holds crisp and fine details. Boxwood has a yellowish color but acquires an elegant darker patina over time.
Hold the cross in your hand as a praying tool, or wear it as a necklace (a black satin cord is included).
Wood tone and wood grain, carving details and dimensions may vary as this is a handmade product.
*The ascetic Cell of Saint Dimitrios belonged previously to Father Irodion of Kapsala, the Holy Fool (1904-1990).
Total cord length: 29.5" (75 cm)
This item was meticulously handcrafted by monks in Mount Athos. While crafting each one, the monks are simultaneously engaged in prayer and concentration, making these items a true blessing! With the purchase of this item, you are also supporting the monastic communities of Mount Athos, Greece.

I opened this gift from my mother and I tried to smell it when I opened it but it had no smell at first until I put it on. Then I smelled it and it was unmistakable. The smell is of frankincense and maybe myrrh and the more I worship the stronger the smell coming off of the cross becomes. This is an extraordinary item and I recommend it to anyone who is undergoing a spiritual battle or trial of some kind or another. Too me, it is a faith indicator and I can smell the frankincense even stronger when I worship and feel the Holy Spirit. Thank you for this cross. I bought the medium size; the small size of the cross was sold out. God bless all of you!
Beautiful cross. Very special item. Lots of attention to detail in the carving. For everyday wear i would recommend the small for most people.

I am thankful for Athonite USA. If you are serious about your faith and would like icons that pull your attention to prayer and Christ, here you go. The colors, the gold, the material, the design, everything is beautiful and puts your attention to what matters. I’m very thankful and will be buying more icons from Athonite USA soon.
This icon was created perfectly in every detail. So inspiring in our home that I cannot stop looking at it. A photograph doesn't do it justice.
This was the first icon I bought from Athonite and it is amazing. The quality and detail of the icon is unbelievable. The gold embedded into this icon makes its appearance that much more beautiful. I will definitely be purchasing more icons from Athonite.
I can't praise the workmanship of this icon enough. I have placed it, along with the Panagia Eleoussa icon in my personal sacred corner, and pray beside them daily. These icons have truly helped me focus on spiritual matters. If you're wondering what they look like in real life, let me assure you they look even better than the photo.
Panagia Eleoussa
This icon is also available in smaller dimensions, as our Mother of God icon.
The Story Behind This Icon:
The icon of the Panagia Eleoussa (also Virgin of Tenderness) is known for showing mercy. The icon depicts the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus Christ who is nestling against her cheek and wraps his arm around His Mother's neck. The term "Eleoussa" translates from the Greek "to show mercy".

I purchased this icon along with the one of Christ, The King of Heaven. This icon shows the love of Christ towards his Mother by their embrace. Which we as people should always respect and love our mothers too. I placed this icon in my dinning room to the left side of my icon of Christ, The King of Heaven. Just as the Greek Orthodox Church has Christ on the right side and Panagia holding Christ of the left side of the alter.
Glory to God! What an amazing icon done from Athonite USA. I included a video here of this blessed icon on my wall. The way it reflects against candle light is so beautiful and mysterious. It truly draws you in to contemplation and prayer. Thank you so much Athonite USA for these beautifully done icons.
The craftsmanship on this icon is superb. Most definitely captures the beauty of our most holy Theotokos!
I chose the Panagia Eleoussa icon for travel and our prayer corner. The endearing and loving nature of the image is how I picture the intercession of our majestic Theotokos. Superb quality and brings us closer to Christ through her benevolent intercession.
Lovely icon. Great quality. A must have!
The Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God
The Feast of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on October 28 (moved by the Church of Greece from October 1 to coincide with "Oxi Day" in honor of the Theotokos's protection of the Greek armed forces in their resistance of the Axis invasion). This commemorates the miraculous appearance of the Mother of God at the Blachernae Church in Constantinople in the mid-tenth century. It was in this church where the robe, veil and part of the belt of the Theotokos were preserved after being recovered from Palestine in the fifth century. On Sunday October 1, during an all night vigil, when the church was overflowing with the faithful, the Fool-for-Christ Saint Andrew, at four o'clock in the morning, beheld the Theotokos appearing above the people, holding her omophorion outstretched as a protective covering. She was clothed in gold-encrusted royal purple, and shone with an ineffable radiance, surrounded by apostles, saints, martyrs and virgins.
Our Beloved Holy Mother tearfully prayed for Christians for a long time, coming near the bishop's throne to continue her prayer. After, she took her veil and spread it over the people praying in the church, protecting them from enemies visible and invisible, resplendent with heavenly glory and gleaming like the rays of the sun. Saint Andrew gazed trembling at the miraculous vision and asked his disciple, named Epiphanius, standing beside him, "Do you see, brother, the Holy Theotokos, praying for all the world?" Epiphanius answered, "I do see, holy father, and I am in awe."
The Holy Icon pictured here is our Icon of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos. On this glorious Feast we implore the defense and assistance of the Queen of Heaven, "Remember us in your prayers, O Lady Virgin Mother of God, that we not perish by the increase of our sins. Protect us from every evil and from grievous woes, for in you do we hope, and venerating the Feast of your Protection, we magnify you."

Another beautiful icon from Athonite! This one is so beautiful that we have purchased 4 of them - 3 for gifts and one for ourselves. We recently "found the True Faith" and became Orthodox. I chose the Theotokos under the title of Most Holy Protection of the Theotokos as my patron saint. My husband chose St. Zosimas as his patron saint, and we also have the glorious Athonite icon of Mary of Egypt and Zosimas. Glory to God for all things!

Saint John the Baptist
The Story Behind This Icon:
The Church commemorates Saint John the Baptist each year on January 7th.
Saint John the Baptist was the last prophet of the Old Testament and has become one of the most revered saints in the Orthodox Church. He was a preacher from a young age and proclaimed that baptism was for the forgiveness of sins. For this reason, he is also called Saint John the Forerunner as he declared that "another will come after him Who will not baptize with water but with the Holy Spirit". Although the Lord Himself had no need of the remission of sins, He nevertheless came to John "to be baptized by him and to fulfill all righteousness" (Math. 3, 13-15).
Saint John had a martyric end: following the Baptism of Jesus Christ, he was imprisoned by Herod Antipas, the governor of Galilee whom he had openly denounced for having left his lawful wife for the wife of his brother Philip, Herodias. On Herod's birthday feast, Herodias' daughter Salome, danced with Herod who, in turn, promised to give her whatever she asked for. After consulting with her wicked mother, Salome asked to be given the head of John the Baptist on a plate. Herod gave the order to cut off the head of John and give it to Salome.
Joanna, the pious wife of Herod buried the head of John the Baptist on the Mount of Olives. The body of John the Baptist was taken that night by the disciples of Jesus Christ who buried it at Sebastia.
Apolytikion of Synaxis of John theBaptist:
The memory of the just is celebrated with hymns of praise, but the Lord's testimony is sufficient for thee, O Forerunner; for thou hast proved to be truly even more venerable than the Prophets, since thou was granted to baptize in the running waters Him Whom they proclaimed. Wherefore, having contested for the truth, thou didst rejoice to announce the good tidings even to those in Hades: that God hath appeared in the flesh, taking away the sin of the world and granting us great mercy.

Saint John the Baptist was my third icon from Athonite, I chose the 7.9 by 11 with the recessed border. The colors are very deep and vibrant. The quality is perfect and just feeling the quality I know this will be passed on through my family.
It's a beautiful icon with amazing detail. Gave this to my son for Sunday of Orthodoxy. Also, lovely packaging, and the shipping was quick.
Stunningly beautiful Icon of the Forerunner, with amazing detail. I'm really pleased with the quality and the fast shipping. Perfect - thank you!
The pictures really don't do it justice. It's a beautiful icon. The packaging is so nice and the shipping was amazingly fast. I'll be ordering again.
Came to my home in top condition and really gives an extra dimension to the style and feel of the aesthetic of my home, especially in my bedroom. Having John the Baptist in my mind reminds me to repent of my sins and look to Christ every morning I wake up and go to sleep.

Binding: Softcover
From the Prologue:
"With the help of God, and after the work of a great many years, our Sisterhood, propelled by our sacred obligation toward the Saint, who for twenty-eight years had guided and benefited us in so many ways, presents the publication of the Biography of Saint Paisios the Athonite.
We also had the great blessing of gaining some insight into the immeasurable love the Saint had for God, his monastic exactitude, his absolute self-denial and the power of his fervent prayer. Having lived in such close proximity to him, we personally experienced his holy simplicity and his profound humility, his God-illuminated discernment, his noble love for each person, but also his deliberate efforts to conceal his virtues.
We therefore deemed it our obligation to utilize all the materials - both information and knowledge bequeathed to us in order to compose, to the best of our ability, the biography of the saintly Elder. The contents of this Synaxarion stem primarily from our communication with the Saint - from the notes we had kept during the gatherings of the Sisterhood and the private conversations we had had with him; from his letters not only to the entire Sisterhood but also to each Sister; from the numerous verbal and written testimonies which had been entrusted to us by clergy, monks and lay-people who had met the Elder' as well as from information that had been gathered from the on-site research we had conducted in some of the areas where the elder had lived and struggled. Understandably, it was impossible to include the enusuing material in its entirety, as it amounted to thousands of pages, and we wanted to avoid an overly extensive volume of biography. As a result, it became necessary to carefully..."
