Saint Euphrosynos the Cook was a monk who lived in Alexandria during the ninth century. He worked in the kitchen of the monastery, prepared the food and serving his fellow brethren while praying and fasting. Obedience and patience were his strongest virtues, as he endured disapproval and many reproachements from his fellow brethren without ever complaining.

There is one incident in the life of this humble monk that made him known:
The Elder monk of the monastery prayed to the Lord to show the Elder the blessings prepared for the righteous in the age to come. In what the Elder thought was a dream, he saw with fear and joy the mystifying beauties of Paradise along with an image of a monk of his monastery, the cook Euphrosynos next to a tree bearing luscious apples. In the vision, the Elder monk asked the cook how he came to be there and if the cook would give him three of the apples from the surrounding beauty of Paradise. Euphrosynos the cook replied that he was in Paradise through the great mercy of God, picked three apples, wrapped them in a cloth and handed them to the Elder.
When the Elder monk awoke in the morning, he found next to him the three apples of Paradise wrapped in the cloth, emitting a splendid aroma. He sought out Euphrosynos in the monastery and asked him to reply under oath where he was the night before. The cook replied that he was where the Elder monk also was. Then the cook continued that the Lord, in fulfilling the prayer of the Elder, had shown him Paradise and had bestowed the fruit of Paradise through him, "the lowly and unworthy servant of God, Euphrosynos."
Later in the day, the Elder monk gathered the brethren of the monastery and revealed everything he had experienced, describing the spiritual heights of Euphrosynos in pleasing God. Deeply remorseful but also impressed, the monks ran to the kitchen to pay respect to Saint Euphrosynos only to find that he was gone.
The apples were kept and distributed for blessing and for the healing of the sick.

Saint Euphrosynos is remembered by the Church on September 11.

This incense is the handiwork of the monks of the Holy Monastery of Gregoriou in Mount Athos, Greece. 

The monks have crafted a variety of traditional incense fragrances, using high quality elements.

Made with pure high quality frankincense, magnesium powder and fragrance. 

Choose between small packs 1.7 oz. (50 g), medium packs 7 oz. (200 g), or select the Assortment Pack that contains twelve fragrances, each 0.88 oz (25 grams).

About the Holy Monastery of Gregoriou in Mount Athos, Greece: Also known as Gregoriou Monastery, the Monastery is built high on a rock and by the sea, on the southeastern side of the Mount Athos peninsula. It was founded in the 14th century by Saint Gregory the Hesychast who dedicated the main church to Saint Nicholas. The second protector of the Monastery is Saint Gregory and the third protector is Saint Anastasia of Rome, known for performing myriad of miracles and whose relics are kept in the Monastery. In its history, Gregoriou Monastery burned down twice (once in the 15th century and then in the 18th century). Both times, it was successfully reconstructed without losing its treasures which now consist of, among other items, 4,000 printed books, 279 manuscripts, and parchments from the unique manuscript of Hermas belonging to the apocryphal books of the Gospel.

Exceptionally beautiful. I ordered the 7.9 x 11. It has a recessed edge which adds subtle depth and creates a soft framing of the image. The colors are rich and sharp. The gold leaf is brilliant. The fidelity of the print is marvelous. It feels very sturdy as well. I am beyond pleased with this icon.

I really enjoyed this icon and gave it as a present for a baptism (I was the godmother) - the picture does not do this icon justice as in person it was much more beautiful. In addition, the box and packaging that it came in were outstanding and I would highly recommend, especially if you are giving as a present because I did not need to buy a box for it. The Story Behind This Icon:

The icon of the Resurrection, also known as “Christ’s Descent into Hades” and “the Anastasis”, is the icon of Easter, celebrating Jesus’ triumph over death. The icon depicts Jesus Christ descending into Hades and pulling Adam and Eve from the tombs, symbolizing His victory back to the very beginning of mankind. The two golden bars under Jesus’ feet (note that His feet and hands still carry the signs of His crucifixion) are the gates of Hades which He has broken open. On the left of the icon, we see David and Solomon, representing those who died before Jesus’ crucifixion, waiting patiently in Hades for their Messiah. On the right side of the icon, we see Abel as a shepherd, the first person to die as a result of the Fall, as well as Saint John the Baptist. In the darkness below, keys, locks & chains symbolize that He has entered and conquered both death and Hades.

The Resurrection

During this Lenten season , I wanted to add to my portfolio of icons depicting the Lord’s ‘trampling death by death’ with the hope of his ‘Anastasi’ resurrection. The quality and workmanship of this item is breathtaking and stands out among my collection (see the Ivón at the center of my wall). It brings to life the power of His triumph over the Devil in Hades. From the time I ordered this product to delivery by USPS took only 5 days . The product was in a beautiful case and I received a small cross to add to the experience. I plan to purchase more of these quality icons from Athonite as a result .

Heaven on Earth!

I ordered the Resurrection icon (size 8"x10", recessed style), which arrived today. It was packaged with great care and attention.

When I opened the USPS box and saw the icon's presentation box, I was already impressed. This will be a Baptism gift for a husband and wife, and the presentation boxing is beautiful (see the above video).

When I opened the presentation box, the beauty of the icon was simply overwhelming! The gold background it heavenly, and the detail of the image is lovely. The mounting is beyond study. This icon was made to last.

I received my 2 knitted Crosses today. One for my sister-in law and one for me. The size of this little knitted cross is small,lightweight on a comfortable black cord. Although small in size it is to be "cherished" for I understand prayers were being said while crafting the Blessed cross .
I am wearing this item now as I submit this review with great joy and humbled by the
Craftmenship ,patience and love that went into this delicate, precious icon of our Lord's passion. Thank you! Rita R.

Depending on the size and theme, Holy Icons are available in both Recessed and Level styles.

The groove in our recessed icons adds depth to the Iconography, making the icon even more dramatic and impressive. In order to keep the relative proportions, the depth of the groove changes with the size of the Holy Icon.

Level

Level icons allow the Iconography to retain its boldness even in smaller sizes. As such most of our level icons have smaller dimensions.

Backside Details

Backside details vary with icon size and serve to ensure that your Holy Icon will stand the test of time. 

Solid wooden icons of larger dimensions are prone to bending and damaging as time passes. Fortunately, our Holy Icons are supported by two additional, horizontal wooden protective panels on the backside. These panels bolster the icon and allow it to sustain its shape, ensuring that your Holy Icon will remain in its original, pristine condition as it is passed down from generation to generation.

Icons of smaller dimensions are naturally sustainable over time, and experience less structural stress. As such, you will find that the backside of smaller Holy Icons is flat and proportional to their shape.
